Several phone photos being combined into a single PDF

Key takeaways

  • You can turn several photos into one PDF without installing an app. Each photo becomes one page.
  • Put the pictures in order, then choose the page size, orientation and margin.
  • For a clear result, shoot in good light, keep the page flat and fill the frame.
  • The conversion runs in your browser, so your photos are not uploaded to our servers.

To turn phone photos into one PDF, open JPG to PDF in your phone's browser, add the photos, put them in order and convert. Each photo becomes one page, and nothing is uploaded.

It happens all the time. You photograph a receipt, a form, a handwritten note or a few pages of a book, and now you have a pile of pictures. The office, the bank or your school wants a single PDF.

You do not need a scanner or a special app. Your phone's browser is enough.

How do I turn phone photos into one PDF?

  1. Open JPG to PDF in your phone's browser.
  2. Tap Select images. Choose the photos from your gallery or take new ones.
  3. Drag the pictures into the order you want. Each one will be one page.
  4. Choose the page size (same as the image, A4 or US Letter), the orientation and the margin.
  5. Tap Convert, then download your PDF.

The same steps work on a laptop. If you want to see every option, our guide How to convert JPG to PDF covers them.

How do I take photos that make a good PDF?

The PDF can only be as clear as the pictures. A little care when you take them saves a lot of trouble later:

  • Use daylight or a bright lamp. Avoid putting your own shadow on the page.
  • Lay the page flat on a plain, dark surface so the edges stand out.
  • Hold the phone straight above the page, not at an angle, so the text is not stretched.
  • Fill the frame, but keep all four corners in the picture.
  • Check that the text is sharp before you move to the next page. Zoom in once to be sure.

Which page size should I choose?

Choice Good for
Same as the image Photos, drawings and anything you want shown as taken
A4 Documents for the UK, Europe and most of the world
US Letter Documents for the US and Canada

If the photos are of printed pages, A4 or US Letter with a small margin looks most like a normal document. For a mix of sizes, keep the page the same as the image.

What about the order of the pages?

Photos often come out of a gallery in the wrong order, especially if you took them at different times. Drag them into place before you convert. If you realise a page is missing after the PDF is made, you can fix it later by adding a page or by merging PDF files. Sideways pictures are turned upright for you, so you do not need to rotate them by hand.

What if my iPhone photos will not load?

Some iPhones save pictures as HEIC, a format that many websites do not read. There are two easy fixes:

  • Open Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible, so new photos are saved as JPEG.
  • Or share the photo as a JPEG from the Photos app instead of the original.

Android phones normally save JPEG already, so you can go straight ahead.

Why is the PDF so big?

Pictures from a phone camera are often several megabytes each. Ten photos can make a PDF too large to attach to an email. Run the finished file through a compressor such as Compress PDF to shrink it. Our guide How to compress a PDF without losing quality shows which level to choose.

Can I make the text searchable?

A PDF made from photos is just pictures of pages, so you cannot select or search the words. If you need that, add a hidden text layer with OCR. How to OCR a PDF explains it step by step. It is worth doing for documents you will need to find things in later.

Are my photos private?

Yes. The photos are turned into a PDF in your browser, so they are not uploaded to our servers. That matters for IDs, bank letters and medical papers. Even so, delete the pictures from shared albums and cloud backups when you no longer need them.
