PDF to JPG: Save Every Page as an Image
Need a PDF page as a picture for a slide, a website or a social post? Here is how to convert a PDF to JPG, and which quality to pick.
Key takeaways
- You can convert every page of a PDF to JPG, or only the pages you choose.
- Normal quality (150 DPI) suits screens and sharing; high quality (300 DPI) suits printing.
- Download the images one by one, or all together as a ZIP file.
- The conversion happens in your browser, so your PDF is not uploaded.
To convert a PDF to JPG, open the PDF to JPG tool, choose all pages or only some, pick the quality and download the images. Normal quality (150 DPI) suits screens, and high quality (300 DPI) suits printing.
A PDF is great for sharing a document, but sometimes you need a picture instead. Maybe you want to put one page into a slide, add a diagram to a website, post a certificate on social media, or send a page to someone whose app only accepts images.
Converting a PDF to JPG gives you a standard image file for each page. This guide shows how to do it for free and which settings to use.
How do I convert a PDF to JPG?
- Open PDF to JPG.
- Click Select PDF file, or drop your PDF onto the page.
- All pages are selected by default. Click a page to leave it out, or type the pages you need, like
1, 3, 5-8. - Choose Normal or High image quality (explained below).
- Click Convert to JPG.
- Download the images one by one, or all together as a ZIP file.
The conversion happens in your browser. Your PDF is not uploaded to our servers, so private documents stay private. See Are online PDF tools safe? for why that matters.
Which image quality should I choose?
Quality is measured in DPI (dots per inch). More dots mean a sharper, but larger, image.
| Quality | Resolution | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | 150 DPI | Screens, email, slides, social media |
| High | 300 DPI | Printing, posters, close-up detail |
If you are not sure, start with Normal. The images are smaller and load quickly. Choose High when you plan to print the image or zoom in on fine print.
What are JPG images good and bad at?
JPG is the most common picture format and opens everywhere. It handles photos very well. But it has limits worth knowing:
- Text becomes a picture. You cannot select, search or copy words in a JPG. If you need to search a document, keep it as a PDF. For a scanned document, OCR PDF adds searchable text.
- Sharp lines can look slightly soft at low quality, especially small text. High quality helps.
- No transparency. Pages always have a solid background, usually white.
How do I save only one page as an image?
Convert the PDF, but select just that page in step 3. You will get a single JPG.
You can also split the PDF first with Split PDF (our guide: How to split a PDF) when you want to keep a one-page PDF as well as a picture.
How do I turn the images back into a PDF?
If you edit or crop the images and later want one PDF again, use JPG to PDF. Our guide How to convert JPG to PDF explains page size, order and margins.
Why is my PDF page very large as an image?
A page set in high quality can produce a big file, especially if the page has photos. If an image is too large to send, convert it again at Normal quality, or compress the original PDF first. See How to compress a PDF.
What if I need something other than a JPG?
A JPG is the right choice for photos and quick sharing, but some jobs need more:
- Editable text: convert to Word instead. See How to convert a PDF to Word.
- Crisp logos or line art: a PNG or a vector file is better than a JPG.
- A print-ready file: our experts can prepare PDFs and images for print with the right size, colour and bleed. Ask for a quote and we will tell you the price before any work starts.
Frequently asked questions
Is PDF to JPG free?
Yes. PDF to JPG on PDFixed is free, with no sign-up and no watermark on your images.
What quality are the JPG images?
Normal quality saves each page at 150 DPI, which looks sharp on screens and is good for sharing. High quality saves at 300 DPI, which is better for printing.
Can I convert only some pages?
Yes. Click the pages you do not want to leave them out, or type the pages you need, like 1, 3, 5-8.
Will the text in the image be selectable?
No. A JPG is a picture, so the words become part of the image and cannot be selected or searched. If you need text, keep the PDF or convert it to Word instead.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
Not directly. Remove the password first, then convert the file.
